  • Laughing gas (Nitrous Oxide)
  • General anesthesia in case of extensive or complex treatments

Saliva can prevent a filling or sealing from closing completely. To keep the tooth free of all moisture from the oral cavity, it is possible to drape a rubber sheath (cofferdam) over the teeth.

Inhalation sedation, laughing gas

Inhalation sedation, laughing gas, relative analgesia, happy gas, nitrous oxide... this one has more names.   Inhalation sedation with nitrous oxide (N2O) and oxygen (O2) has been described as  nearly 'ideal' clinical sedative technique. 

After 5 minutes or so of breathing in the gas, you should feel an euphoric feeling spread throughout your body. It really feels like a 'happy' feeling. Some people find that there are auditory or visual effects as well. You will feel a bit light headed, smooth and often people get 'the giggles' (hence the name laughing gas!).
